Terms of use

Who can use Muse Rent

You need an account with a verified email address to book an instrument or to list one, and you must be old enough to enter a binding agreement where you live. One person, one account: do not share your credentials, and tell us if you believe someone else has used them.

Muse Rent is the marketplace, not the party to the rental

The rental agreement is between the renter and the lister. Muse Rent provides the listing, booking, payment and condition-photo tooling that surrounds it, holds the money while a booking is in flight, and reviews a problem when one is raised — but it does not own, inspect, insure or transport any instrument listed on the platform.

What a lister agrees to

Describe the instrument honestly, declare a value that reflects what it is genuinely worth, keep your availability current, and hand over the instrument in the condition your listing describes. Upload your condition photos at the handoff — a booking cannot be marked as under way without them, because they are the baseline that protects you.

What a renter agrees to

Use the instrument with the care its owner would, keep it in your own possession for the rental, do not sublet or sell it, and return it on the agreed date in the condition you received it in, ordinary playing wear aside. Tell the lister promptly if something goes wrong while it is with you.

Payments, fees and payouts

Booking a rental places two separate authorizations on your card: the rental fee and a security deposit calculated as 25% of the instrument’s declared value. The rental fee is captured when the lister confirms the booking; the deposit stays an authorization hold and is only collected if a damage claim is approved. Muse Rent keeps a platform fee of 15% of the rental fee, deducted from the lister’s payout, and pays the lister the balance after the post-return holding period has passed.

Conduct, content and account closure

Do not list instruments you do not own or have the right to rent out, do not use the platform for anything unlawful, and do not post content that is abusive or misleading. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and you may close yours at any time once your open bookings are finished.

Liability and changes to these terms

Muse Rent is provided as it is, without a warranty that a booking will go the way you hope. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law. We may update these terms as the product changes, and material changes will be announced on this page with a new effective date.

Cancellation policy

A confirmed booking can be cancelled before the handoff. When it is, the rental fee is refunded in full to the renter’s original payment method and the security deposit hold is released, so nothing is collected for a rental that never happened. Muse Rent does not deduct a penalty from either side for cancelling.

Cancel as early as you can. A lister who cancels late leaves a renter without an instrument for a date they had planned around, and a renter who cancels late leaves dates blocked that the lister could have filled. The dates a cancelled booking held are released back to the listing straight away.

If a renter never arrives for the handoff, the lister can report the no-show once the start date has arrived. The rental fee is refunded to the renter, the deposit hold is released, and the dates are freed up again.

Once an instrument has been handed over, the rental is under way and cancelling it is no longer the right route — arrange an early return with the other party instead, and contact support at support@muse-rent.com if you cannot agree.
